After your fishing adventure and days of excitement, choose one of these carefully curated stays.
A favorite choice for many guests is to spend their final night with us at the Billfish Inn. Relax, savor the memories of your fishing days, and enjoy a peaceful evening before your departure. The next morning, you can either:
For those who want to end their trip in style, La Casa Philipps in Antigua is our top recommendation. The Old City’s charm makes it an ideal way to close your journey. For couples, this overnight stay is a must. We can also arrange extended stays if you wish to enjoy Antigua for longer.
After your final day of fishing, our driver will take you directly to Casa Santo Domingo Hotel. Your package includes the 45-minute airport transfer the following day. Depending on your schedule, you can:
Casa Santo Domingo is more than a five-star hotel — it’s a cultural hub. Its grounds include restored remnants of the Saint Dominic convent and temple, preserved through agreements with the National Council for the Protection of Antigua Guatemala. Since 1989, the project has blended archaeological preservation with luxury hospitality. Guests enjoy opera, art exhibitions, festivals, and two outstanding museums.
Nestled in the Panchoy Valley and surrounded by the Agua, Fuego, and Acatenango volcanoes, Antigua sits at 1,530 meters above sea level, offering a mild climate — warm days and cool nights. Founded on March 10, 1543, after the devastating mudslide from Volcán de Junajpú destroyed its predecessor, Antigua has endured centuries of earthquakes and floods. Today, it remains one of the most beautiful colonial cities in the Americas.
Pedro de Alvarado founded Villa de Santiago de Guatemala on July 25, 1524. After relocating to the Almolonga Valley, tragedy struck in 1541 when a volcanic mudslide buried the city, killing many — including Alvarado’s wife, Doña Beatriz de la Cueva. The survivors moved to the Panchoy Valley, creating the Antigua Guatemala we know today.
As you plan your next billfishing trip with Guatemalan Billfishing Adventures, here’s a quick primer on travel and arrivals. It’s simple, seamless, and built for anglers.
Guatemala City (La Aurora International) is served by multiple major airlines with frequent nonstops from U.S. hubs such as Miami and Houston, plus convenient connections from most cities. U.S. passport holders typically do not require a visa for short stays. Guests traveling on other passports should check current entry requirements before departure.
After you clear customs, our full-time driver Diego Raymundo will meet you at the arrivals area, holding a sign with your name. He’ll be wearing a short-sleeve shirt with the Guatemalan Billfishing Adventures embroidered logo on the left chest. A courtesy phone is available if needed.
Once you’re in the vehicle, Diego notifies the Billfish Inn that you’ve arrived and that all luggage is accounted for, then again as you approach the coast so our team is ready to welcome you. The scenic drive (approximately 1 hour 15 minutes) descends from the highlands to the Pacific through volcano-framed country — refreshments on board.
We coordinate door-to-dock logistics so your arrival is effortless. Prefer to review options? See our dedicated page: In-House Ground or Air Transfers .
For most of our anglers, the sweet spot is three full days of fishing. This allows enough time to maximize your trip’s potential while keeping your schedule practical. Over this span, you’ll often experience at least one hot day — 20+ sailfish releases — without stretching your time or budget.
With the relatively low travel cost from most major U.S. cities, many clients book two shorter trips per year instead of one long one — increasing their chances of hitting those truly massive days. But if this is your only Guatemalan trip for the year (or foreseeable future), we recommend 4 or more full days for an action-packed adventure.
Most parties arrive in Guatemala City the afternoon or early evening before their first fishing day. Our driver will meet you at the airport, assist with your luggage, and bring you down to the lodge.
Spend your first evening enjoying the Billfish Inn comforts, then wake refreshed for a hearty breakfast and a full day on the water.
