Decisive at the helm. A curated fleet to match your dates and crew.
Flagship • Refit every season • Built for Guatemala’s bite
The heartbeat of Guatemalan Billfishing Adventures. Refit after every season and tuned for bait-and-switch precision, Decisive delivers cool comfort, clean sightlines, and an ultra-efficient cockpit so you capitalize on every raise. With a private day-boat layout and crew workflow honed over decades, she’s where records are made—and remade.
Alongside Decisive, we operate a curated selection of top sportfishing boats in Guatemala—handpicked crews, tuned tackle, and the same GBA service rhythm under our direct supervision. Same waters. Same results.
Puerto Quetzal • Marina Pez Vela • Built around the bite
The DECISIVE is fully equipped with premium fly tackle, but if you prefer to bring your own, here’s how to ensure it’s perfectly suited for our waters.
For sailfish, I recommend a minimum 13–14 weight rod. Personally, I use 15–16 weight rods for maximum control and efficiency. You’re welcome to fit your own reel onto one of my rods if you wish.
There’s no need to worry about rigging—we’ll prepare everything for you at the dock, walking you through the “how” and “why” behind each step.
I recommend bringing a few unrigged Cam Sigler popper billfish flies in pink—my go-to choice. If possible, leave fly lines and backing off the reel so we can rig them here for optimal local performance.
As an Alutecnos Pro-Team Boat, Decisive carries the ultimate in big-game gear. Our 20-lb high-speed “Veloce” lever-drags with matched stand-up rods are ideal for Guatemala’s acrobatic sailfish and slammer dorado. Every setup is maintained to perfection and ready from the first bite to the last release.
For blue marlin and larger tuna, two-speed Alutecnos 30# & 50# outfits are always standing by. Light spinning rods add extra sport on dorado and help newer anglers perfect their drop-back hookups. Fly anglers will find 14- and 16-weight rods paired with #12 Alutecnos direct-drive reels and Billy Pate Bluefin anti-reverse reels—serious tools for bluewater fly.
Our captain and crew fish these waters almost daily and rank among the best in the world. Whether you prefer conventional, fly, hybrid, or ultra-light, they’ll tune your technique, share insider knowledge, and rig with precision. Bring your own outfit or use ours—you’ll fish at your best.
Guatemala leads the world in billfish stewardship. Sailfish are protected here and commercial harvest is prohibited, creating an unrivaled year-round fishery built on respect for the resource.
At GBA, circle hooks on all natural baits (Eagle Claw) and a 100% catch-and-release policy are non-negotiable. Fewer deep hookups, faster recoveries, and more fish for the future—this is precision with a purpose.
Capt. Brad Philipps is a long-standing supporter of conservation and The Billfish Foundation, with multiple Release Captain of the Year and Sailfish Release honors—living proof that excellence and ethics belong together.
While ‘Decisive’ is our flagship, our network includes a select group of the top sportfishing boats in Guatemala. Whether you’re a solo angler, a family, or a corporate group, we can tailor your adventure with precision.
Our Billfish Inn accommodates up to 10 guests, or can be split into two exclusive groups of 5 for ultimate privacy. Whichever way you choose, you’ll enjoy our signature hospitality both on the water and onshore.
Every boat we book operates under our direct supervision, ensuring the same professionalism, efficiency, and client satisfaction that have defined our name for decades.
With years of proven results in Guatemalan sportfishing, we guarantee you the best possible billfishing experience—whichever vessel you step aboard.
All of our boats welcome anglers of every age and skill level. And as always, every billfish is released to fight another day.
Sailfish • Dorado • Yellowfin • Marlin
A seamless sportfishing experience, with every detail handled so you can focus on the catch.
Fly-fishers may wish to bring additional Cam Sigler Popper Flies in pink. Crew gratuities are not included.
Dry Season: Typical lows of 65–68°F and highs of 90–100°F. Cooler in Guatemala City and Antigua (1500m above sea level), but always comfortable.
Boats are air-conditioned with an open bulkhead, so expect warm conditions during much of your trip.
