Capt. Brad Philipps has released more billfish than anyone on the planet — 40,000+ and counting. With over 20 years based in Guatemala and 23 seasons on these waters, his record-breaking days include 91 sailfish in a day, 73 for a single angler, and 51 on fly. His average: 16 releases per day over two decades. This is the ultimate package for serious anglers.
Nestled on a mangrove-lined channel in a gated community just minutes from the Marina, The Billfish Inn offers a private and refined escape for anglers. Whether you're part of an exclusive group of 5 or a full party of 10, we do not mix groups — ensuring a seamless, personalized experience from arrival to your final cast.
Guatemala is one of the world’s top destinations for large numbers of billfish. With warm weather, calm seas, and daily action, we primarily target the incredible sailfish population — averaging 70-90 lbs and offering thrilling sport on light tackle or fly.
Our open bar service is at your disposal, offering fine wines and cocktails to pair with a 3-course gourmet dinner each evening. Fresh catch, jumbo prawns, and local dishes are curated by our private chef to delight every palate.
Many guests choose to spend their final night in Antigua Guatemala — the beautifully preserved colonial city just 1 hour from the lodge. With cobbled streets, volcano views, and our boutique property Casa Philipps, it’s the perfect finale to your adventure.
Flights arrive daily into Guatemala City from Houston, Dallas, and Miami (2–3 hours). Our private driver, wearing a “Guatemalan Billfishing Adventures” shirt, will greet you at the airport for the 1hr45 transfer to the coast — included in every package.
While "Decisive" remains our flagship, we also book a fleet of top-tier sportfishing boats to accommodate larger parties and different preferences. Our commitment to excellence extends to every captain, vessel, and detail — ensuring your time on the water is flawless.
We’ve reimagined the charter experience — world-class fishing, legacy captains, and a seamless, modern way to book.

We fish out of Puerto Quetzal — boats are docked at Marina Pez Vela. Our driver takes you from the lodge at 6:45am, and you're on the water from 7am to 5pm. Expect to fish anywhere from 8 to 50 miles out, with 20 miles being typical.
After fishing, return for poolside Happy Hour, followed by a 3-course dinner. It’s structured, smooth, and always memorable — like being 10 again, at camp!
Our Standard Package is thoughtfully designed to offer you comfort, indulgence, and seamless service — with no surprises. Here's everything you can expect:
Everything is taken care of so you can focus on the experience.
Once your dates and package have been confirmed, a 50% deposit is required within 15 days to secure your reservation. You may pay via wire transfer or check. Please email us a copy of your deposit slip if paying by wire, or let us know once a check has been mailed. Allow 2 business days for postage, and an additional 4 days for check clearance by our Guatemalan bank.
If your deposit has not cleared into our bank by the end of the 15-day window, and no suitable arrangement has been made, your reservation will be released and made available to other guests.
The remaining 50% is due 6 weeks prior to the start of your fishing trip. A reminder will be sent. Please account for mailing and processing times if paying by check. Again, please send proof of wire transfers by email.
Weather-related cancellations are rare in Guatemala. However, if your Captain determines conditions to be unsafe, you’ll receive credit for that day—either added to your current trip (if available) or as a credit for a future trip.
If you choose not to fish for personal comfort or other reasons without the captain’s call, no credit will be issued. We’ll do everything possible to accommodate guest preferences.
In the unlikely event of a mechanical breakdown, we will attempt to replace the boat with a suitable alternative. If no option is available, a full fishing day credit will be issued for a future trip. If that’s not possible, a full refund for the affected day will be provided.
No refunds are available for cancellations made within 30 days of your scheduled trip. However, we will attempt to resell your dates. If successful, you’ll receive a refund of 50% of your package price, less a $150 cancellation fee per person.
Cancellations made more than 30 days in advance are fully refundable if we are able to resell the fishing days and rooms. If not, you will receive a 50% refund. A $150 cancellation fee per person applies to all cancellations.
Note: We reserve the right to update these terms and policies at any time without prior notice. For questions or assistance, please contact us via email.
If you have an early departure flight and prefer to stay near the airport after your final fishing day, we can arrange a transfer to a nearby hotel in Guatemala City. Please notify us in advance—this will result in a small adjustment to your quote.
Packages exclude: international airfare, alcoholic beverages, Guatemalan taxes (to be paid locally), and gratuities.
