Plan with Confidence
Founder-led, one-group-at-a-time hospitality. Use the quick jumps below, then tap to expand any topic.
How long to fish, when to come, travel flow, and how to structure the perfect week.
Long-haul guests: add a buffer night on arrival and one at the end for recovery and flexibility.
We actively book Oct–Jun; Guatemala produces in every month of our season.
The more anglers and more days you book, the better the per-person value. Example: 5 anglers over 5+ days lowers the daily rate per person versus 1–2 anglers.
Antigua Guatemala (≈1 hour) is perfect for culture, cafés, shopping, spa. At the coast: pool time, riverside walks, or a guided panga tour. We’ll customize daily plans around preferences.
Why Guatemala, target species, records, and sea conditions.
Easy access, frequent flat seas, and prolific billfish. We target large numbers of sailfish (avg. 70–100 lb) with additional shots at blue marlin, plus dorado and tuna when around.
Historic stats include 91 sails on 20 lb in a day, 73 for a single angler in a day, and 51 for a single angler on fly.
Yes. We’ve logged 40+ release days in every month we operate. For the calmest seas, Mar–May are standouts.
DFW → GUA nonstop on American is the simplest (~3 hours). Similar nonstop options exist from other major U.S. hubs.
Bait-and-switch, fly vs conventional, and what a typical day looks like.
Absolutely. We keep a bait long and run three teasers short for the fly. If a fish teases in well, we throw the fly; if not, we pitch the bait from the boat, or it drops back to the long rigger bait. It’s a very productive way to fish.
It’s intensely visual — aggressive fish teased into perfect position, a decisive eat right behind the transom, then acrobatics and speed. Teamwork and timing make it unforgettable.
Across 15+ years here our average on the fly rod is ~7 sailfish releases/day, often with a couple more on a backup spin rod. Best day stands at 51 releases on fly for a single angler (IGFA-clean).
Two fly anglers rotating is ideal. Solo is great too; rotation just keeps the energy and presentations fresh.
The pinnacle. We’ve had days with multiple blue marlin bites on fly and up to two landed in a day. More consistent windows are May–Nov. Book 4–6 days to stack opportunities (you’ll catch sails on fly while waiting for the blue).
Boat tackle, bringing your own, and hook specs.
Yes. Decisive is fully outfitted with top-tier fly gear. Bring your own if you like; 13–14 wt is the minimum. Brad often uses 15–16 wt.
Best to leave lines/backing off your reel; we’ll rig dockside and walk you through the why.
What’s included, how to book, and how we host one private group at a time.
We suggest extra Cam Sigler popper flies (pink) for fly anglers. Tips are not included.

Over 15 years here, Brad’s average on the fly rod is 7 sailfish releases a day, with a couple more often added on the backup spin rod for fish that won’t bite or tease to the fly. His best day stands at an incredible 51 releases on the fly rod for a single angler — all IGFA certified.
Brad recommends using a 50 lb spectra backing in a hi-vis color, followed by a 50–60 yard section of 30 lb hi-vis mono running line. For the fly line, use a 500-grain shooting head with a thin diameter, cut to approximately 20 feet.
The Pacific Coast of Guatemala is easy to get to, offers flat seas, great weather, and has it all. We target mainly the huge numbers of sailfish here — averaging 70-90 lbs, measuring eight to ten feet in total length, and offering superb sport on light conventional tackle or fly-fishing gear.
Records include as many as 91 sailfish released in a day on 20 lb line, 73 for a single angler in one day, and 51 for a single angler on fly gear. The average is 15 releases a day. All gear is provided on board, and in addition to sailfish, we also catch good numbers of blue marlin, dorado, and tuna.
The boat DECISIVE is fully equipped with fly tackle, but if you’d like to bring your own, we recommend a minimum of a 13–14 weight rod. You can always put one of your reels on our rods if you prefer.
I personally use 15–16 weight rods. There’s no need to worry about rigging — we’ll handle all of that for you here. In fact, it’s better to leave fly lines and backing off your reel so we can walk you through exactly how and why we rig the way we do.
I recommend bringing some unrigged Cam Sigler popper billfish flies in pink.
We recommend that fly-fishermen bring additional Cam Sigler Popper Flies (pink).
Boat crew tips are not included.
One group at a time. Here’s how we structure truly great trips.
Minimum: 5 full fishing days. Ideal: block 7–9 full days so you can rest when needed and still fish hard on the best windows.
Rhythm that works: fish 2–3 days, take a rest/excursion day (many guests do Antigua Guatemala), then fish again. It keeps the crew fresh and adapts to the bite.
Tip: add a buffer day on arrival and departure for travel recovery and flexibility.
November typically sees a stronger, more consistent bite (Oct–Dec is prime). February can still be very good, but expect the possibility of a rough day or two.
The boat DECISIVE is fully equipped for fly, but if you prefer your own: bring at least a 13–14 wt (Brad often uses 15–16 wt).
Rigging: we’ll handle it on site. It’s actually better to arrive with reel unrigged so we can walk you through our setup.
Flies: bring a few unrigged Cam Sigler popper billfish flies (pink).
More anglers and more days improve per-person value. For example, 5 anglers over 5 days is notably better value than fewer anglers for the same duration.
Yes — standing on the bridge gives a fantastic view of fish entering the spread and the bait-and-switch unfold. We’ll cue you for the eat.
